III. The interpretation of Five of Arrows Wildwood Tarot

Discouragement is the enemy of all pursuits that need self-control and composure. It is frustrating to hear a rumor or lie spreading widely. However, the cool and calm-headed hunter would not be distracted by those trifles. It takes practice to understand that anything that takes away emotional focus so that targeting is truly and worthy, has no value. They are, merely, just dispersants. If someone bothers you, and you react, you will only help satisfy their ego and let them know that you have wavered. Let’s take a deep and steady breath and you will see clearly what your real goal is.

From time to time, humor can soften and deflect the effects of discouragement. Let’s take a second to laugh at yourself and see the sarcasm in distracting situations. Look at the frivolities of what is being played against you, annoy you, then coolly focus on your own business with a mature and steady attitude. Discouragement is energy without basis. It will work against you and, usually, is arranged to make it difficult to resolve your challenge. Let’s take some time to stabilize your goals and ignore the temptations. Focus on the target, release the arrow, aim it with great precision and intentional attention.

IV. The guideline of Five of Arrows Wildwood Tarot

A great long-horned goat is jumping through the air while around him arrows whizz as the shooter misses his target. The card is named Frustration and today we pause in the Wildwood to admit frustration and its effects upon us and our goals. We could consider the goat to represent frustration – perhaps it is an obstacle to whatever the shooter is really aiming at.

So, what is between us and our goals? Our fears, our lack of skills, the opinions of others, even our overconfidence! Our heads get occupied and our concentration becomes like arrows, scattering, shooting in multiple directions.

The Five of Arrows is the Wildwood Tarot’s version of the Five of Swords, a card that is often associated with disharmony and hostility. And there is some of that here, although it is less the “against the world” mentality that is usually seen in this card, and more about being your own worst enemy.

Are you worried about missing out on an important opportunity, or afraid that when an opportunity appears, you will end up losing your mark? Or maybe you are frustrated because you cannot see your goal clearly in the first place.

This is a difficult situation the figure in this card encounters on his own. He knows he needs to act quickly, but it is clear that flinging his arrows in every direction but the one that counts is not going to land him the prize. He shot four arrows and they all missed. Will he do the right thing with his fifth (and also final) arrow? The answer depends heavily on his willingness to see where his failure to focus has blocked him up in the first place. And this is something you also want to keep in mind today.

Instead of focusing on the goal and what it will take us to reach it, we fail to retreat from the mental leaping goats (the Buddhists call this Monkey Mind) and we become prevented. We randomly fire off arrows in many directions and become frustrated when they fail to hit the target.

Perhaps we no longer even recognize that the goat has been the intended target all along! Be sure of what your goal is so that you do not get snarled up in all the peripheries! Today, the Five of Arrows asks you to detach, to cut through the mental clutter, clarify your aims, and know where you want your arrows to land.
