II. The Meaning of Page of Arrows Wildwood Tarot
With a reddish yellow beak and mysterious black and white feathers, the wren was once considered the guardian of the mysteries of winter. The ancient monks kept the wren as the sacred species of prophecy. They also sacrificed them on St. Stephen’s Day (December 26th).
III. The interpretation of Page of Arrows Wildwood Tarot
The Wren perches on a bare branch as the snow of winter melts in early spring. It may be one of the smallest birds in England, but it is almost loudest in its voice, wavering between a rhythmic whistle and a penetrating beep. It builds a circular cave-like nest to attract a female, which will show its commitment by lining it with green plants and laying eggs inside. The Wren is known as the King of all birds of British and Irish legends because, in a contest to see which bird can fly the highest, it soars into the air above the Eagle’s back and wins the trophy.
In the middle of winter, in Ireland and South Wales, the Wren represents the old year, was hunted and killed, then carried round in a cage by its entourage of the Wren Boys, who went from house to house singing its praises. Wren’s size and courage make it a secret messenger.

As an event/situation: A new skill or idea. The challenge, deal or contract needs careful attention. Examination, experimentation, testing. Trivia.
Question: How to adapt flexibly? What gives you the courage to face the challenge you need? What do you need to overcome? What is the mystery in the nature of the matter?
IV. The guideline of Page of Arrows Wildwood Tarot
The fast-changing energy of the Knight of Arrows now makes way for the wisdom of the little Wren as we begin to move away from the airy bird energies of the Arrows suit and into the Fiery animal energy of Bows and Beltane. Page of Arrows Wildwood describes Wren, bright and agile to the coming of the new season, landed amongst the last of the snows.
You are called to take some time from your day and sit with Wren, listening to her tale. She says: “Despite my tiny size and unremarkable color, I have a very loud voice! I have inspired many folk tales. One of the most popular is how I outwitted Eagle to fly the highest of all the birds and so earn the title King of Birds. This tale, coupled with my ancient links to the Druids earns my reputation for wisdom and cunning.”
In the King of Birds tale, Wren tricks the other birds and stows away on Eagle’s back and shows them all that he can fly higher than Eagle. What clever mischief he made! In real life, of course, Wren does not soar higher than the Eagle, preferring instead to fly around near the ground. This is eminently suitable behavior for a bird presenting earthy Page energy. Wren urges us to be the sort of person who keeps the curiosity of youth, to be attentive to your surroundings, and is ready to learn when the opportunity appears.
The Druids considered that the wren, the smallest bird, was the wisest. So, wrens remind us to listen. This little bird sits and observes something in the harsh winter day, but it must be warming up where this wren is, the water is flowing and while it is cold, the water is not frozen solid. This little bird intimates that you need to study, do your homework to bring in the same wisdom and understanding so that you can apply it to most situations. Youth and determination will carry you forward, your skills may be new, having only just come into existence, but they may bring you to a progressive perception.
