It can also symbolize the feeling of mourning associated with making a dream come true, or realizing that a dream is not possible. Sometimes, it is easier to live in our fantasies, where we can have anything we like or can be anyone we choose. When we have to base and think realistically, that can be a painful process. In the end, this card brings a sense of honor to those who came first – it is not much more realistic than our ancestors fought and sweat and left to give us a chance to be born. The spirals and lightning drawn on the skull can represent the great circle of life, the Universe, and the moments in which we overcome the haze and make the decisions we need to make.
